| What's up guys it's been a while, I've been busy...long story short I'm in school for automotive..anyway just wanted someone to refresh my memory on changing both U-joints and then reinstalling driveshaft.
Anyway Tom SR's car took a dump on 95 N due to the u-joint coming undone from the clamps somehow.
I had two problems that I could see where this went wrong
1. Had a hard time setting the detroit clip on on the u-joint...this was at the end of the driveshaft that meets the pinion flange. I pounded on the side that need a little more clearance with a punch and 2 lb hammer....it was super tight. Essentially bending the yoke a couple thousands of an inch. Boils down to there was too much pressure on the caps and they couldn't spin as needed.
2. I may have actually set the u-joint in the pinion flange wrong...I just set it in there and tightened the clamps down. Now that I think of it all the other times I've done this the joint would only go into the flange one way...and this one was loose. Guess that should have been a sign.
Thanks guys. | |

Take a joke. You answered your own question. U have to pound that hard to bend that yoke. Did u mark the dshaft an yoke when u pulled it out? They hate going in wrong.

| Got the car up on the lift today after rolling it in the shop.
1. Broken pinion flange 2. Dented driveshaft 3. Exhaust destroyed (not salvagable) 4. Broken transmission case (and no, not the tailshaft - that would have been too easy)
Conclusion: Don't phuck up the u-joints. Ever. Again.

Good to have you back. Well the labor's free Dunno if it's good to be back...jk. Sick of riding around in my buddy's Honda...Haven't driven the roadmaster in over a year and even misfiring that thing is nasty for what it is. Dropped the trans in about 45 minutes...yeah I've done this a couple times. Tomorrow I'll fix the driveshaft (good thing I had a spare in the trunk that I can transfer the yoke to), easy-out the snapped off oxygen sensor, and replace the power steering pump. It never ends...all for the love of a V8.

| I think you'll be back in the "ROADSLAYER" sooner than you think! | |
