PostSubject: New to me '96 9c1 L99   Tue Feb 22, 2011 6:23 pm

So most of you know that I bought Glen's L99 9c1. I'll tell you what, this is a real nice car. It starts right up and it's SUPER quiet. That may or may not change.... It's not an LT1 but I need it as a reliable daily driver and the Roadmaster wasn't very economical. The L99 engine will be better on fuel than an L05 or LT1. It's still got some pep, more than the TBI motors.

I took advantage of the decent weather today and brought it to the car wash. I also swapped out the headlights and grill with takeoffs from my '94 Caprice.

Of course some light cleaning was done on the interior to make me feel at home.

Here are some shots of under the hood. Believe me when I say it won't look like this again as long as I own it. I can't wait to clean under here, I love a challenge!

It's got it's issues like the arcing ignition wire and CEL code 1441 something about the emissions.. As for the wire I am going to track down which one it is and just replace that 1 wire with a spare I have for now. The exhaust is also hanging down in the back. I'll need to take care of that I can't stand looking at it.

My plan for this car is to basically keep it looking like a 9c1. I have some 91 tails I may or may not put on here. I have some headlight covers too but I put them on today and it takes away from the "police car" look. There are holes in the dash but I have a good grey lower dash in my parts stash for it that will get swapped in. The seats will be converted to power once I get my hands on a harness. I already have the switches bezels and power rails for that. This car is also missing the air dams so I'm on the lookout for those. Thanks for checking it out, stay tuned for more to come.

Thats a good looking car, now I know what my almost identical 9C1 can look like with a little work. I put the 91 tails on mine and like the look, the strip of chrome on those lines up nicely with the chrome on the lip of the trunk. And it never hurts to throw more CB antennas on the trunk to enhance that police look Very Happy . I'm jealous of your trunk lid, mine is riddled with holes filled with ugly black plugs and RTV everywhere.

Nice find! I've got the LT1 in my cellar waiting for a new home.

CEL??? Thats new. It never had one before.

You'll see the exhaust pipe they used a piece of flexpipe. I planed to put some duals on it.

I'll have the harness out as soon as i can.

That's pretty clean man. Looks nice and rust-free! Smile Love the color. Good luck with it.

That is a nice looking ride, i kept starring at it in Dover. The color is great for that undercover look, just add tint and some strobes.

....... to bad it was so cold out , I was really tempted to pull the buffer out the trunk and start polishing your car. Arrow

Cleaned up even nicer! Did you put that Lexol stuff you have on the dash? It looks all renewed now, I remember it looked a little chalky at the meet. My white car was like that when I bought it, the 303 fixed it.

And I also love that color. It's not like that later GM pewter color that seems to be on everything, I'm not a super huge fan of that. This color seems to be like silver/gray with a little bit of purple in it.

The color is definitely unique. It does look a little purple. At night it looks gold.

I didn't dress the interior at all. I used some diluted purple power and a microfiber to wipe everything down. I'll go back over it with vinylex another day.

Had no doubt that car would be clean as a whistle when weather permitted.
Really is a nice color.
The interior should help you with Roadmaster withdrawl...nice comfy seats are the 1st thing you miss.

So if your chasing this code (& its not a loose gas cap),
evap purge solenoid is on the pass side wing of home plate bracket.
Hope you dont need to mess with the canister, just a PIA to get at.
The vacuum lines and rubber connections are usually somewhat dry-rotted.
Matts car theyre like that but NEVER had a problem.
If there's a cracked or broken line that could be it.
90degree fitting off the side of the throttle body (below the breather hose) converts to plastic hose then rubber again into the solenoid. Other side goes to the canister.

Nice looking 9C1. I cant wait to see it in person. Be careful in Attleboro, the cops here like to stare you down when you're in a police package car, and if they havnt seen you yet, they'll make up a reason to stop you. My friend drives a CV P71 and they gave him a $250 ticket for 31% tint when the limit is 35%. another friend is a cop in providence college, and drives a 9C1, he checked his own plates, in Attleboro, his plate has been hit over 100 times in 3 years. thats ridiculous. They did it to me when I brought mine from Cali. It took them about 2 weeks.

Anyway.Next meet we have we should convoy up together and boot un-educated people from the left lane, or they will just go 15mph under the speed limit, or hang back by the quarter window(it was fun for about a year lol) Very Happy
