While I had my wheels off, I decided to clean up under my wheelwells while the area was accessible.
I didn't go nuts, all I did was grind down any trouble spots, degrease and clean under there...I used Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer I had sitting around just to use it up, as well as some of that crazy silver rust-proof paint I had as well. Then I sprayed 3M undercoat over it all.
When I got to the back I uncovered this and it worried me, but it turns out it's just a piece of extra metal that hangs down ahead of the rear wheel with nothing behind it. I just ground it all down and coated it with the silver.
I don't know what the hell this is about, but I actually found a small pinhole in the same spot on the driver's side of the car as the passenger side "trouble spot" going who knows where, it had been filled with body putty at the factory. I don't know if rust had spread behind the putty or what. I think it just comes out someplace on the other side under the car instead of INSIDE somewhere. Either way, I did the best I could cleaning that up too and treated it.
Suppose it could be a lot worse...
It actually looks pretty nice in person. When I get a chance I'll start doing under the car itself. I also did up in back on the frame rails a bit and under where the gas tank filler is on the bottom of the trunk floor.
