Picked up a new toy Empty
PostSubject: Picked up a new toy   Picked up a new toy EmptyMon Nov 08, 2010 9:52 am

After owning 2 LT1 wagons, I wanted to see what a sedan was like, and I finally found one. On my way up to a swap meet I stopped and took a look at a 94 9C1 I found on craigslist the day before. 142k, LT1, minimal rust, and a $400 price tag. Supposedly the tranny slips around 65-70mph, and the heater core is shot. I took a look at it, it ran good, was not a rust bucket, so I bought it! The guy I bought it from got it with a weak #7 cylinder, so he dropped an LT1 and tranny out of a 96 SS in it, and for some reason, converted the car over the OBDII. Why, I don't know. He also put a new exhaust system on it (no headers Crying or Very sad ) and some hollowed mufflers, which makes this thing sound awesome! The car is in relatively good shape, the typical scaling on the the frame, no rot to be found, and the trunk was dry. The interior need some help though. It has some crappy black carpet that does not fit right, a chewed up steering wheel, and a home made gauge cluster made out of a PC power supply housing. Also had 3 new tires. There is a nice class III hitch on there with air shocks and a valve right on the hitch, looks like a decent setup. Spent the day cleaning it, removing 4 years of grime and dirt from being abandoned. Heres some pics from when it got dropped of yesterday, clean pics to come. This one should sort of blend into the sea of wagons its in. All in all, I am happy for the price. It remains to be seen whats up with the tranny, I haven't gotten it up on the highway yet, but locally it shifts fine. And in the last pic, found the perfect plate at the swap meet for the front Very Happy .

I just posted in the parts section, but yes, I do need some parts. I would like to get a blue carpet, trunk liner/spare cover, and a blue steering wheel that still has paint (fat chance, right?).

Sounds good. The trunk liner/cover and the molding are the most important to me right now. I can live with the other stuff.

Great buy!

He might have swapped it to OBD2 because it's easier to scan for problems and diagnose. I'm fairly sure that if your OBD1 car was emissions exempt, swapping it to OBD2 doesn't make you have to pass emissions...lol

That mess was the first thing I noticed when I opened the door. Went kind of like "what the f... is all this crap" Surprisingly, the gauges do work. Some of the random wires like to arc around turns (big surprise, right?). 2 of the switches to control something. One is the back light on the gauges, the other toggles the flashers inside the trunk lid. That one is nice, I don't need to announce to the whole parking lot that I am loading crap into my trunk.

Flashers in the trunk? Are they the police lights? What's the spid code for the trunk lights?

I think the code is 6J6. Not sure. I have never had a 9c1 with them. But I am pretty sure that is the code.

I'll have to run the vin through comnine and see if it lists that. They are original equipment. I have a vid of the car I will try to upload later.

My black out or "stealth" button doesnt work. I havnt bothered with it, but how does it work, and where does it go to? Just want to know before I start taking things apart. Also, how are the trunk lights hooked up? I have those too, but again no wiring and they dont work, no switch...

No idea how the black out works, never took one apart. And as for the trunk lights, this guy rewired them into a switch on that "console" so he could shut them off. They have a mercury switch and appear to originally be on a constant positive line so they could work whenever the trunk was open.

While were on the subject of 9C1 lights, anyone know how to re-enable the dome light? It was orignally setup to not work when the doors were open. It does work by the head light switch.

On my 9C1s the wires were cut at the door jamb switch. Unscrew the switch, fish out the two white wires and repair.
