PostSubject: Anyone Know a Good Paint Shop?   Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:17 pm

I just rattle canned the wagon to get rid of the ugly ass brown spots around the door handles. Come spring I really wanna have the car professionally done. Wetsand/ clean up my shitty touch up jobs clear coat and just get a nice level paint job. A body place here quoted me close to $1500 to paint the car. I'm not gonna spend more than what I paid for the car on paint. So does anyone know a reputable/affordable/good paint place?

You go to a body shop, you will get that price everywhere. Find a small time shop see what they can do, or find a body guy that does it on the side in his home, like i did.

Good does not = affordable. You get what you pay for when it comes to paint and body work.

Yeah I know that. Hence why I wont even go to a place like Maaco. I just can't justify more than the cost of my car for a halfway decent paintjob.

Around here there are a couple retired guys who work out of their garages, no overhead and lots of free time. They typically cost about 2/3 of what a comparable paint job at a shop would cost...ask around, there might be someone like that down your way.

To be honest, Maaco really isn't that bad. If you don't have the cash to pay for a real good paint job your options are slim. I only paid $1200 for my Caprice but that doesn't mean its not worth putting more than that into the body.

Agreed Very Happy Dont let the sale price be your limit on your mod/repair budget. Ive put lots of money into my 9C1, a little more than I paid, and the '95 is slowly approaching the price I paid already. Thats all in repair/upgrade/mod work. If you let it be the limit. Then thats all your car will be worth to you. If you dont think you will have it long term, fine. But you could make its life longer if you give a little back to it. It will be a burden like one other person on here who recently bought a pile he has no money to fix up. Im sure you can figure out what Im trying to say.

With Maaco, it depends on which one you go to.. The one in Brockton has been REALLY good in the past two years, everytime I go by there they have at least 1 classic car there.. Other Maacos have bad reps, stay away from them..
