Well she is all loaded up, waiting for the guy to find the dang title, I'm surprised, it started right up, and I drove it up the embankment!!! Thank heaven for snow tires!!!! She's got a wicked exhaust leak, lol sounds like a racecar! He had a brand new set gm manuals, and lower front air dams. Pics later

Well here she is, i have the SS wheels, and a bunch of other parts. Needs work. I think i may undercoat the crap out of it, and run it this winter for a backup. the underside is worse than i thought, but it is a great car, i wouldn't part it.

Very jealous. Great score man, too cool. I love that you are going to keep it and make it a winter beater. You know I would have parted it, but it would be cool to pimp a real Impala in the winter, even if it is a bit rough.

I really need to stop screwing around and buy a late model ss for a DD.

Even in the rough, she has some style lol.

One kid at school last year had a 95 SS his dad gave to him. He played violin (was good at it actually) and loved math. The sad part was, he didn't know anything about cars. All he know was that his was loud for some reason... A lot of stuff started to break on it but he didn't care, it was just a way to get around to him.

Once I finish the 87 two door, I want to branch out to a real ss and actually care about it.

Get a Caprice and mod it out. It'll be cheaper in the long run than an SS, plus people won't kill you if you do stupid things to it like put in a carb or something.

Yeah, but having a real SS would just feel so much better to me, especially if I try to put the time and effort into keeping it for a while. And if i don't want to keep it there's a better chance to break even.

Not quite. Ask Billy what his SS went for. Or Rich. Or how much Glen just bought one for. All you're doing is making it more valuable for insurance and taxes. The only way to make it worth while is that kids who don't know better will pay the premium for a "real" SS. Those who know better buy 9C1's or them hard to find 1A2's then swap on the SS bits and bobbles that Doug stores in his attic Wink

Actually the body is very straight, it started right up to. IMHO its to good to part, i just can't bring myself to do it. And Doug has enough black panels, up there i'm sure i could find a hood, fender, and some SS headlights up in his boneyard. (if any is left)

The rad supprt is rusty as it came off a taxi cab he found at LKQ, i have 7 of them i'll blast and paint 1 and put it on.
The paint is faded badly on the rear bumper and spoiler. The front bumper cover is junk. It needs exhaust manifold gaskets. the exhaust is new 2 years ago. The digi dash is on and off.

He replace the opti, plugs, alum support brackett (the tensioner tab snapped off, so he replaced all of it) brakes, rotors on rear, new winter tires, and a bunch of other stuff.

There is one funny thing, the steering wheel, is beautiful!!!! i have never seen one so clean. I ask him if he replaced it, he said no. I'm going to swap it out to my other 94, and put a cover on it.

Isn't it funny how some cars have the strangest parts that don't wear? I had a DCm that was a flintstone car, the floor was rusted that bad, but the doors and fenders were without a spot of rust. That same car had a very nice wheel as well, he said he bought it from an old man. The only thing I can think of is that my grandfather has the softest hands I have ever felt, maybe that keeps the wheel from wearing. The wear on my 08 Sierra is already wearing from my sandpaper hands...LOL

I have a couple sets of very nice fenders and a pretty nice black bumper skin if you need them, you set a date and come grab them and they will be cheap. Wink

I wear out wheels too. My 88 had a almost perfect wheel (blue interior) and now it's black all the way around. Lot's of driving and lots of grease oil or dirt on my hands driving the car. Older people don't mess with stuff like that so their hands (and wheel) stay clean thus less dye rubbing off.

My Roadmaster Wagon I had, had the strangest wheel.

you can see it in this pic

Cool Doug, Thank you.

I just got a hood from Larry for the other 94, and i'll use the hood off that, which is dinged up for this 94.

The little woman and i stood out in the doorway last night looking at all the car, she said i'm nuts, and its time to clean up. shes right, if it snowed tomorrow i'd be boned!!! I got rid of 1 car, anyone need anything?

Glen, how many cars are you up to now? How many Impalas and how many Caprices?

I had 7 Impalas and 2 Caprices at one point, that was my record. I am now down to my Impala and one parts Impala and both are in the garage.

Nobody around here is the Boxy guy yet. Just a few of us who dabble with them. Bf was selling off some boxy 9c1 stuff a bit ago. Try him for that kind of thing.

Most of the rust is superficial. some of it came right off with a wire brush. Probably will blast the hell out of it when i get my blaster fixed

Thats the plan, i have a hood, i'm going to leave the caprice headlights and rad support. I need a bumper cover, and drivers fender in BBB black (help Doug)

I think i might just use a big wire wheel, and then i'm going to put a can of POR 15 in a sprayer, cover the exhaust and go to town.

Duplicolor you say? hmmmmmmmmmm

That's what I'd like to do to my truck. And Marshmallow. And Fleetwood... But I think I want to use the SEM stuff that Al raves about. I've seen the way it looks on the bottom of his caprice after 3 years and with minimal prep. Impressed to say the least. Wink

And yes. Duplicolor.

Thanks Mean SS.

Also, i am having one other issue, lol, well more than one. I have to "prime" it to get it started. when its been sitting, Either jump the wire under the hood (doesn't always work) or dump some fuel in the TB. But it runs great after that. Is there a primer seperate from the FP? I get a clicking under the hood on the other SS, but not on this one. I looked in the FSM, but don't know what i'm looking for.

Wow, you can tell that it was a pretty clean car before they parked it, all that rust looks "new"... That's sad, but looks savable.

This prime we talk about is just the fuel pump energizing for "X" seconds, then shutting down. When you sit in the car & its quiet, you turn the car to ON you'll hear the fuel pump hum on for that "X" seconds (I'm guessing 3-4 seconds. After that the pressure should be up even if it bled down between starts. Its a faint hum but once youve heard it you can always hear it.

Absolutely. SEM has much better adhesion, better longevity (especially UV), is self-leveling, can be brushed or thinned and sprayed, and can be easily top-coated. You can also buy it in rattle-cans but it does'nt work as well.

The down sides:
Don't get it on anything you don't want it to be on (it will come off stuff when still wet). I have clothes this stuff has got on years ago & it's still there, just like the day it got on there. I got it on my skin & it takes forever to get it off.
You need to mix it 4:1 with enamel hardener, & once it's mixed it will start to set (kinda like epoxy or bondo), even if you seal it up in a container, so don't mix more than you need. If you need more just mix more up. Use brushes you are going to throw away, way too much of hassle to clean them.
This stuff STINKS while you are using it. Use caution when you are using large amounts in somewhere like a trunk, this stuff will make you woozy in a hurry.

Hope this helps.
