| Since I have a stock pile of whitewall tires in my basement I decided to give the DIY wide whitewall a try. I had 2 caprice alloys with whitewall tires hanging around from my old white 95 caprice. One was flat and had a gash in the sidewall. Perfect for practice! I used a sander/grinder thing with an 80 grit disc. Then I used a "medium" grit foam sanding block to smooth it out. After watching some videos of people doing this with the wheel mounted on the car I decided it was best to take it off. The technique I used was to gently grasp the sander. Then, let it just glide over the surface of the tire and do all the work. It's not perfectly even but there is barely any gouging this way. At first I didn't do this and I experienced some gouging. I didn't expose all of the white, I worked from the inside outward keeping the sharp inner line. You can see the width poking through the sidewall already. These are what I have to work with for the front of the Buick, the rears are regular size white walls. Here's a video of me grinding this tire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ELVN0K6L1A It's dark so I'll post pics of them mounted on the Buick tomorrow. I think it looks pretty good! | |

I hope so cause this winter you'll be seeing the rear end again & again after your first high speed corner. So whats next? those wheels for the winter? adding hubcaps? Car looks clean, those mouldings are glistening

| LOL once the snow flies im sure I will drop it back down. I am getting some caps at the round up then I will decide which caps to put on the wheels.
Right now I am outside wire brushing and painting underneath. I'm using cheap spray paint and it's not going to last a decade but it will look better under there and will still protect better than not doing anything at all.
