1989 geo metro hatchback
1.0L, 3cyl
5-speed stick
48-54 mpg's

I know.. "clown car" blah blah blah cuz im a big guy. but I can get this car VERY cheap, and its in good shape with only 87k miles on it.. and its SUPERB on gas.. Does anybody have expericence with these? I mean, the little 1.0 cylinder doesnt look hard to work on lol, the car has no options.. would it make a decent winter beater or are they know to be a POS?

The car's too small. You will be holding the accelerator to the floor just to leave a red light.

They aren't known for being great cars. The tracker isn't bad if you can keep it on its wheels. The prizm is actually a rebadged Toyota Carolla. The metro was a failed experiment at designing a european city car. Consider it the grandfather of the aveo. If someone gave me one I'd drive it till it dies, but I wouldn't spend much more then $300 for one

There was a winter or 2 way back when I drove a diesel rabbit.
Mileage comes at a price.
It certainly helps you appreciate OTHER vehicles.
No experience w/ geo tho

So even if it IS super cheap (or FREE), reliable, AND great on gas, and you can live with the inevitable tardiness that it will bring... Would you want to get hit in it?

Yeah man. I'll tell ya what if I hurt like I do (still) after getting hit in a VW, I can only imagine what it would be like to get hit in that tuna can.

I did, I still have it. but its got 240k on it and im not sure if it will make it through the winter lol. I stumbled apon this metro which has 87k on it and thought hmm.. should I? But it seems that the 1.0 3cyl's arent very reliable..

87K is almost the lifespan of that motor and car dude.

It's a throw-away car and was manufactured as such.

Don't buy that fkin hooptie.

Fishah ain't kidding. When I used to go to Danvers State Hospital all the time w/my friends, the security guys watching the building had one of those crapcans as a security car to do rounds. In some ways it was a tank, but almost all the time it was falling apart, even though it had low mileage. A couple other kids we knew actually WERE security and beat the bag out of it.
We used to F with it all the time when they parked it. The car was useless in snow, and one day we found it stuck in a snowbank. It was unlocked and we proceeded to find a whole spare engine sitting in the trunk of the damn car. Laughing
