LQ4 questions? Empty
PostSubject: LQ4 questions?   LQ4 questions? EmptyFri Sep 03, 2010 12:12 am

Well, new development. My car decided its time to get me more aggravated by having the engine make some knocking noises. Sweet! biggest POS in the world../rant

Well since ive wanted to do a t56.. which was the WHOLE purpose of buying a rust free southern car, so that i'd have a NICE platform to work with.. I might as well do it right.

I want to do an LS swap. LQ4 seems to be the way to go. Which year Suburban/Silverados had the "best" lq4? Seems like 02+ from what i read, but would like advice from some experts.. unfortunately i dont know any so i ask here Wink Thanks guys

What did you do with that 60K engine?

Good question, LS swap will take time and money.

Any LQ4 2000+ is what you want (99 had iron heads). I would recommend you get a 2000-2002 because they are drive by cable rather than drive by wire, it's just easier.

Just a fast rundown of what I have into my LM7:

-Engine w/everything: $700 (LQ4 will likely be $1200+)
-4L60 Trans: $600 (I too will be going T56 later, but that is $1200+ easy so I went auto for now)
-F2B Kit: $400 for when I do the T56
-Swap Headers: $800
-Mounts: $400
-X-member: $200
-Custom built plug-n-play wire harness: $950
-PCM reprogramming: $150
-LS1 intake & misc. little items: $300

To come:
-Exhaust: $400+
-Other misc. parts: $300

Throw those numbers together real quick with the T56 and you are talking about $6000. Not awful, but not something I would consider a quick upgrade either.

Now surprisingly, time has not been much of an issue with this swap, if I had done it all at once I would have easily had it done in a weekend with the swap parts I used, so that is a plus...

Just some food for thought.

Still have it.. I just don't see a point in wasting more time with LT's.. my car has always had a slight roughness to it in idle wich I never figured out.. I think ls will be better in the long run.. I'm not saying tgis will happen overnight, as I don't have $ for that, but I think its a good goal to set..
