| OK so JR did paint the Camaro with some black spray paint but it seems he missed a few spots! Maybe me washing it is taking the paint off?? I've never spray painted a car before so I'm kinda lookin for a little advise on what to do with this thing... I was thinking some rustoleum gloss black spray cans. But I also have an air compressor maybe I should pick up a cheap spray gun for that and buy some cans of paint? Do I sand down what's on there now or just scuff it with some scotch brite? I want to really layer the paint on so it is somewhat durable. I want it to look good (for a DIY paintjob), not dull and shitty. I would like to be able to wet sand and buff after the paint is cured from baking in the sun for a week or so. I know it's all in the prep so I will be removing what I can and taping everything off nice nice. I got plenty of taping practice from crovos caddy. Thanks for your comments... | |

| OK I missed that you bought that car. I'm quite often out of touch. When did that happen? I have no paint knowledge whatsoeva except I'll tell you...IMHO If you expect it to look good, your going to have to give it to someone that knows WTF to do. Sorry. | |

| I am not paying anyone to paint this car professionally. The rear passenger quarter is all bondo, the body line is gone and the trunk doesn't line up right. I will never be satisfied with the body of this car unless it has all the body work done because I am picky like that. I will think it looks like crap no matter what. So, I might as well feel proud that I made it look like crap myself instead of putting money into someone else's pocket and still not be happy. Bobby, that sounds like some good advise. If I am going to clear it, do I shoot it right over the paint or do I sand the paint first? Do I sand in between coats or just dry and spray again? Leave sanding for after the clear is shot? (after prep sanding of course) | |

Salted or unsalted? LOL jk Might have to take you up on that we'll see how ambitious I feel. Thanks Jim for the links. I actually have read the corvair one a few times. I don't like the idea of rolling the paint on but it seems to do a good job.

| What kind of paint are we talking? Gloss finish? satin? If satin it's easy, talk to billy.
If you want a semi professional DIY job you are going to have to do some good research online, but someone with your attention to detail could really do a good job. It is really about prep work and proper sanding, both of those are well within your grasp and your attention to detail will make it look nice. A little online research and you can handle it.
I took the task on after sliding my truck bed into a tree offroad and doing some decent damage that cracked the paint. I had a friend pull the dent, then I tackled the paint. It was a first time for me, but after wet sanding I had something I could say I was "proud of" for being on a truck that was usually covered in mud.
I have since painted a couple cars of my own and had good luck. Nothing perfect, but certainty daily driver worthy.

| You'll have a lot of people tell you that a $50 Rustoleum paint job won't last. Maybe it won't last 15 years like a good bc/cc but you can do one section at a time and touch it up any time you like. I did a Camaro hood like this and thought it came out reasonably well. Just need to finish it someday. | |

| Scuff it. Shoot it with Rustoleum. One quart will do it. Thin it with acetone. You can even paint it while it's raining. You'll be in it for less than 20 bucks if you have the tape and newspaper. It will look the balls. We could even do it here. | |

| Well the Camaro is basically Kayla's toy so that would make sense! Her friends think it's a piece of crap because it's not silent and the paint dont shine. Can't help the silent part but I can do something about it's shine.. or lack of. | |

Not a bad idea, worst case you are out a couple hours and you have a good starting point for a paint job rather than a rough one.

| Yeah, that teal color actually didn't look to bad from further away...maybe you could get the black off then cut and buff the teal? | |

You sure it's not original? That was a factory color on those around that time, not that bad IMHO...lol

| The factory green is darker. That is the wrong shade. You can see the original green under the hood and under the trunk. Please excuse the filth. | |

| Yeah, they had two greens available. Gay green and the forrest green. Why you would paint over the good, rarer one with that gawdawful teal is beyond me! smh We could probably squirt it the correct green, too. I'd be willing to try that if Billy would. You could probably get it in a single stage paint and we wouldn't even have to clearcoat it. (Thinking time constraints here) I bet you can do that for about 100 bucks in supplies. We'd just have to DA that old spray paint off and then shoot it. | |

| Ain't nothing wrong with teal...I love the color on my truck, it's got metallic and black in it though. But, that color on the Camaro looks more like a dirty "Now and Later" candy. Honestly, I hate it when people change the color of the car going way out of their way to make it look nice via professional paint, and then you look in the door jambs and it's the original color. I can't believe they went over the hunter green with that...I suppose it worked because that was a factory color, but why? That car in the bottom picture looks sick. Great color combo with the tan interior, a friend of mine had a Mustang like that. It's a shame they really aren't making blue and green cars right now that much, supposedly when the economy is good you see a lot of teals and greens in production (mid 90s), but when the economy is in the crapper, you mostly see silver, white, gray, pewter and other neutral stuff. | |
