september "car of the month" Empty
PostSubject: september "car of the month"   september "car of the month" EmptyTue Sep 07, 2010 8:33 pm

my story starts back in the summer of 04.
i had just finished bagging my 87 fullsize p/u, when we found out Jenn
was pregnant with Taylor our youngest.
my truck being a reg cab just wasnt going to work for cruising with the family.
and i had no where to store it when we moved from CT to NH.
i decided it was time to part the truck out and start my hunt for a new project.
my friend Eric had recently purchased a 92 caprice, and bagged it on 20s.
i was in love with the look of his car and added that to my list of possible new projects.
i looked at a 93 with low miles from florida.
it was a really nice car, minus the drivers side rear quarter damage.
someone had backed into the car and dented the qp from the bumper to the door jamb.
at the time i was not capable to tackle this type of repair, so i moved on.
i kept searching looking at astro vans and late 80s suburbans, then i found an add for a 91 caprice, the add stated it needed minor work. $500 firm.
i called and set up an appointment to go look at it.
when i pulled up there was visible rust on the drivers lower quarter.
i was tempted to put the car back in drive and leave.
but i had driven an hour to come take a look at it and got out.
it was owned by a 17 year old kid who had bought it off his grandfather(the original owner) and was unhappy with how "uncool" it was.
he had just put a new cd player and speakers in and had the alternator replaced the week before.
after looking it over the rust wasnt really that bad and all it needed was a muffler and tailpipe.
i gave the kid $500 and put one of the old plates i had lying around on it and drove it home.
september "car of the month" 100_4135
i cleaned it up, got the exhaust fixed, removed the side moldings, and installed an impala grille.

i drove it like this for a year, until we moved to NH in 05.
once i was settled in and working i started back in on the car.
i used a set of wheels from an old s10 project i had, got clear corners and also used some side mirrors from the s10.
september "car of the month" 100_0005
september "car of the month" 100_0004
i needed adapters for the wheels which made them rub in the rear.
i found a set of 9c1 wheels and ditched the chrome wheels.
september "car of the month" 100_0326
september "car of the month" 100_0327
it was lowered somewhere around this time and i got an SS rear end.
the added width from the rearend was causing problems with the new wheels i was looking at buying.
i found a guy on ebay who made fiberglass flares to eliminate the rear skirt. i ordered them up and got my new wheels.

i had been lurking on the national forum for a little while when i came across a post in the f/s section a guy from dover was looking for a set of lower rear control arms and had a drivers side fender he wanted to use as trade.
just my luck i needed a d/s fender and had an extra set of rear arms.
after pming back and forth we met in epping at the walmart.
Bill Mckay was this guy.
we stood out in the cold talking b bodies until Bill had to run.
he only made it half way out to the main road when his tailgate fell open dumping a bucket of plumbing fittings all over the ground.
i stopped to help him with his mess and we both went our seperate ways.
the fall of the next year i met with a group off the national forum in a uno pizzeria parking lot in concord, this was the beginning of the "fall round up".
Bill M was there, this is where i also met Bill C, Tom, Fishah, Chris P, Jay, Mark, Steve
had a blast that day and met alot of good people.
always needing to change things up i needed to do something with the impala grille.
https://badass-of-ne.forumotion.com/bad-talk-f5/new-look-for-my-grilleinstalled-pics-added-t84.htm
the old s10 mirrors just didnt work for me any more so i got a set of 95-96 mirrors from Glen and installed them.
i was really enjoying my car but there was still apart of me that missed my air ride days.
i started looking into kits to bag the car and started buying parts.
finally i had everything i needed and went to work last summer.
https://badass-of-ne.forumotion.com/modifications-performance-f7/project-laidlow-t479.htm
the weather last summer really made it difficult working out in my driveway. finally with the summer just about over i finished the install.
after about a month back on the road with the car i wasnt feeling the flat black anymore and was in need of fresh paint anyways.
after many trips to walmarts paint section i found the new color.
https://badass-of-ne.forumotion.com/modifications-performance-f7/look-what-i-did-t803.htm
like most projects i do this one was no different fighting me all the way.
that was it for mods for 09, i drove the car til the weather turned and then it got parked.
this year i decided it was time for some new and bigger wheels.
after finding a set of used 20s cheap i was back in business.
https://badass-of-ne.forumotion.com/modifications-performance-f7/pics-of-the-new-wheels-finally-t1637.htm
with the bigger wheels came another problem, now they where hitting in the front wheel wells.
https://badass-of-ne.forumotion.com/modifications-performance-f7/made-a-little-room-t1806.htm
with that done it was time to enjoy the car for the summer.

Great story Anthony. I have loved this car since I first met Anthony at Roundup 08. Every year he makes a lot of changes and improvements.

What Anthony didn't show pictures of is his interior. You won't find any nicer.

Anthony, are you going to the Roundup?

Nice job

Tom

Love hearing the stories about how a car came to be, and I really love this car. The bags and wheels are pretty sweet, but the flares and custom grill really make this car.

Anthony, I can't tell from that last pic, but did you finally put the 94 SS quarter windows in?

Doug

I'm not normally a fan of bagged or even lowered cars. But ever since I saw your car in person, I've loved it. The paint is awesome, I totally dig the grill. Its just a great lookin car.

Like a few others, I normally don't go for the dropped cars.

This thing looks GREAT though, it sort of reminds me of Dave Freiburger's F-Bomb camaro in HOT ROD Magazine with the paint choice. And that's something i like about this car.

My favorite part about the build is the before- during- and now shots. I know I'm young and new to building cars, but I love seeing it all work out from a basic $500 grandpa car to a great looking ride.

Keep any changes posted!

Awesome timeline of changes- this is one of my favorite cars ever. Whenever I mention the forum to someone who historically hasn't been into B-bodies, etc., I show Anthony's car as an example and they are interested right away. Sick car.

Car looks great and has come a long way, Ant! Smile

I dig the grille, and the fenderwells, and the stance, and bags, and... everything about it.

How did I miss this?

Congratulations on being car of the month for september Anthony. The work you have put into it and contribute to the b-body world warrants a car of the year award if it ever comes to that. Great story, and great build Arrow .
