| Is there any real reason for them not to make a civilian version? The people need a proper car again. | |

| Oh man... Wish I was in a monetary position to snag one of these. My local police chief would happily order me one... - SScarlett_Caprice wrote:

My guess is to feel it out before they release it to the masses.

| I hope they do, because ive been saying for years that if chevrolet goes back to what their good at, big basic rwd cars with a v8, people will remember the name and theyll sell by the millions. | |

| High points: 6 litre engine 6l80 trans starter interrupt idle boost alternator vinyl seat/floor option stainless steel dual exhaust "coolant hoses are EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer)" silicone? Low points: Unibody 2.92 gear ratio 18x8 steel wheels Dex-cool Not a fan of the styling myself, I'm more into the police Chargers. They look mean where as the new Cappy looks like a Toyota family car. | |

| Oh, so the Javelin & Charger are cool, but they're complaining about the unibody. Everyone seemed to think it was OK when it was called the G8. Drive something built in the last 10 years that isn't a truck and then realize what an outdated platform the B-Body really is. Dual battery option is pretty neat. - J | |

| I didn't like the g8. I did like the gto though. By the way both of those were imported from aussie land and were "outdated" platforms from the 80's that were due to be discontinued before they were rebadged and sent stateside. And outdated is an odd word when it comes to automobiles. A steel frame with solid rear axles will always be far more reliable and last much longer than any unibody ever could. They're also far easier to repair. So I'd say just because they don't use it anymore doesn't make it not as good. Drive a Toyota hybrid and then decide if technology really equates to an improvement. I'd say any fwd unibody is generally crap from the day it was designed. rwd unibody isn't far behind it. That's why they make subframe connectors for them old cars Those cappy's should outperform the wimpalas that the police loved so much. That means that once the Crown Vics are finally retired it'll be a 2 horse race between Chevies that cops probably wont like and Chargers that cops generally don't like. | |

| I have said this a million times. B-bodys are a dinosaur by todays standard. Body on frame is a thing of the past. The new caprice gets similar fuel milage, yet beats our cars in every other place including impact protection for passengers. And I think the fact it looks similar to the Current impala is how it should be. It also shares it's platform with the G8, CTS, and Camaro. I would own one in a heartbeat. |

I would own one in a heartbeat. So would I. Im really hoping for a civilian version. Maybe a brougham package? I really wonder why they haven't even floated the idea of a civi one yet. I would think selling more of them would bring the costs down on assembly, importing and sales which is something city budget offices would love.

| You answered your own question. Making alot of them drives down the price per car and then GM doesn't make money. They already learned that the hard way. | |

| Im sure GM knows how to sell enough cars and make a profit. They used to do it, very well in fact. I'm not suggesting GM sell cars at a loss or a razor thin margin. But just enough so that the police departments can get a reasonably priced car, and the few civilians that would want them can too. Then again, it wont be very long until they start showing up at auction. Thou I have a feeling they will command a decent price used. | |

Arent they dreadful? My mother drives an 07 convertible with the hateful 'pony package'. its all the gt options without the v8. Ive driven it a few times and its desperately uncomfortable in every way and the automatic shifter handle feels like its going to break if i stare at it too intently. - bammax wrote:

I have, and for the first time since the car was invented its become worse than riding around in a wooden cart looking at a horses backside. I have to agree that full frame is a better way of doing things. at work i drive fords, chryslers, chevys, VWs, and the occasional oddball that gets traded in. ive driven all kinds of things in and out of the shop, then immediately after driven my caprice, but nothing has felt as solid and well made. I know that unibody with crumple zones and thousands of airbags is much safer in reality, but at the very least i feel safer having a proper frame beneath me.

| Crumple zones may be "safer" on crash tests, but I'd rather not have to be cut out of a car with broken arms and legs every time I bump a shopping cart at 5 mph. Once they added front airbags and 3 point seat belts cars were as safe as needed. The stats didn't show it because old timers didn't wear the belts and people sometimes disabled the airbags. Somewhere is a crash test vid involving smart cars and full-size cars and you should see the leaping ability them little cars get | |

| quite right, even if i am a bit mangled from a crash i would feel better knowing that my car won. Ive seen those videos, the grape with wheels bounces completly out of frame and the dummys head smacks the steering wheel THROUGH THE AIR BAG! | |

| I would love to have one of these new cars...but part of me liked the G8's body shape as opposed to this car, which is a stretched version. It's still not a bad looking car when you compare it to some of the crap floating around on the market out there right now.
I'm hoping that it takes off and by the time the next generation or updated model comes around, production is moved to the US and maybe a new SS is released...

| like the delay of the new body camaro..... this thing was suppose to be out in like 05 or 06 as the 50th anniversary edition of the impala ss due to the high demand for a rwd sedan from chevy..... but good ol government motors sent it over seas first....... | |
