ok ok i know its not in new england but stuff like this has me checkin the prices of one way plane tickets sometimes

I don't put much faith in the digidash to show the mileage. I'd focus on the pedal pads and how much grime is built up in the core support and the frame rails as proof of the mileage.

Is it even possible to reprogram a digital odometer?

Mileage is saved in the display module. Swap it out and you'll have different mileage. That's what I've always seen anyway. Don't know bout the 96's though. I just assume it's the same.
