128 North at mile marker 62.2

The dilemma is do I run it till the rod that knocks on startup exits the block for the high mileage bragging rights,
or do i drop in the 56k motor that's waiting in the parts car?

I am really up in the air on this because the running gear is all OE and she still runs nice and pulls good other than the aforementioned knock.

Any input is appreciated and will likely decide her fate.

If it was me I would swap the motor in, just knowing that the knock is there would be enough to keep me from taking it any distance for fear of breakdown... that's just me though.

If the knock is only there at startup I don't see why it would be a rod issue. Sounds more like an issue with an exhaust leak pretending to be a rod or low oil pressure at startup causing noise. I'd just switch to a different grade oil and check the exhuast (including air pump system) and make sure it's neither of those first.

Even worn out and broken a sbc can run for a long time. A buddy of mine almost bought a Camaro with a wierd tapping noise in the engine and found out that a rod had snapped and driven itself through the block. The tapping noise was the rest of the rod popping in and out of the giant hole on every crank rotation. Car still ran though Laughing

I know its not the exhaust cause i already hashed that deal out, and the air pump is gone. Oil pressure is right on point. I narrowed it down to # 2 or 6, but I've been thinking... maybe an injector?

And it wasn't a small block but my buddy had a Nova with a strait 6 that went 45 miles with a terrible ticking noise. Made it home and it took 4 1/2 quarts of oil. In a post apocalyptic Road Warrior world i would have to take the GM 230 over the Ford with the nifty supercharger.

I would do the swap. The drivetrain would still be correct, but less miles
