It's not a B-body but it is a GM.

1996 Regal 4- door. 3100 v6

My girls sister was going to junk this car. I got it for the low. The intake was pissing out coolant, like they all do.

I am going to sell this car to make a bit of money when I'm done. I junked my gold 88 so I swapped the alloy wheels and like-new tires to the Regal. I have installed the upper and lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, ac delco plugs, new wires, air filter, pcv valve, thermostat and serp belt. After the job is done I am going to change the oil/filter and put fresh coolant clean it up and it should make a great car for someone.

Heres some before pics because I am going to clean the engine bay thoroughly.





Some action shots, its nasty in there. She did not keep up with the oil too good.






The gaskets were shot.




Hopefully finishing it up tomorrow.

This one was optioned with the 3100, unfortunately. My Eighty Eight and Silhouette both have the 3800 and yes they are some reliable engines although they have the same intake sealing issues as this 3100. Not my engines in particular but the 3800 in general.

the 3100 is dam near bullet proof, heck all the 3000 series are. we had a 38 in our Bonneville, never had one problem. I had a 31 in my 95 Grand Am GT and my '96 Lumina. Dam good engines, Shoulda kept the Lumina, never gave me any trouble...

Bulletproof yes, leakproof no.

I also had a '91 cutlass with the 3.1. I had to do this same intake job. It was a great running car, should have kept it. The only problem ive had with my 3800 is the water pump. But it was so easy to change.

The main thing about those cars that sucks is the rear brake calipers always seem to seize up, then caused the fronts to wear out faster...the rear struts crap out, etc. But still not bad cars. We had an 89 Grand Prix, the 3.1 in that car ran great for well after the time the odometer stopped working at 169K miles (digital dash broke). My father drove it into the ground then my brother got rear ended in it, the car still ran excellent when it was driven onto a flatbed.

My brother then had a 95 that had the bad intake gasket, that car was a lemon though, it was like someone assembled it while drinking on the job. A drunk driver totaled that car, ironically, my brother got T-boned in it.

Anyway, I think the older 3.1s were pretty damned bulletproof, I remember the 89 had a different intake on it that was rectangular...looks like you did a good job fixing this one, that looked like a lot of work to tackle!

I took a few pics today of the engine bay cleaned up. I spent a few hours buffing the paint bringing the shine back. I don't have any before pictures but in the few years the previous owner had it she washed it maybe 3 times. I still have some interior cleaning/repairing and touching up the engine bay to do, then it is hitting craigslist, unless of course one of you guys want it. Very Happy

























Window switches need securing and it's missing the vent trim on the passenger side.
