| It's ok-laugh! I have the nut off but a few threads and the top is stripped. Anyone have this happen before? I have taken a break from this since the top stripped, banged my hand, and I am somewhat frustrated...anyone have this before-advise? Next time I am throwing some $ at someone to do this | |

| I think what a lot of guys do is just put a deep socket on it and rock it till it snaps...
Have you tried vice grips on the shaft and an impact on the socket?

| I just grind the side of the nut a little with a hand grinder . it will split when you go to take it off | |

| Bill-I was thinking about that-I will grab my vise grips set from work 2morrow and clamp on the shaft and impact that bad boy off. Bob-with the control arm on I don't know how to get a grinder in there. | |

| put a jack under the control arm and raise it as far as you can the see if you can get a cut off wheel in there from under the control arm | |

| One of these micro grinders can get into tight places. Not a lot of power and it will take some time but mine has out lived two electric "dremels". Next time I'm gonna get me one with more power: big model. | |

| I have a cordless dremel and some disc's specific for metal cutting and it works great. I've never tested it on something as large as a bolt though. It makes quick work of brackets I know. I'd imagine if you go all out and burn through a couple disc's it would cut through the nut eventually. | |

| If you are replacing the shocks, take a deep 9/16 socket and place over nut, get a couple long extensions and start going back and fourth til the shock bolt fractures. This works every time. But you will need to tighten the nut back down for it to work. |

| What if you want to save the shocks? I have several cars that have good ones. | |

Very carefully grind off one side of the nut. Stop when the threads just start to show. Then you should be able to spin the nut off. It takes a long time to do with a dremel.
