The new fluid didn't help it?

Is the belt slipping?

Might be the pump... If it is, we could do a pump-swap-fest @ Fishah's house soon! Razz

Check to see if your water pump is leaking from the weephole in the back. It's common for that to leak on the belt at low speeds and cause the belt to slip. Then you have no power steering for a second...

Also check your Idler pulley Rich. If it does not have enough tension, it will allow the belt to slip also.

+2 for belt tensioner I bet that's what it is. My '95 had a squeeky tensioner and when I went through puddles my steering didnt work around turns.

I had the same problem as you describe and it turned out the belt itself had stretched out a bit and just wouldn't stay tight enough. I replaced the belt and the new one was about an inch shorter than the worn out one was.

I would replace belt and tensioner for good measure.

I would also take a look at the ball joints and tierods, you could have one binding up on you. If you find that you need a pump, I might have an extra one kicking around.
