I would have to agree with Bob on this. Use the Delphi Opti. I would however use the accel cap and rotor kit, as it has brass terminals, or the MSD cap and rotor kit which also uses brass terminals, and a better design for the rotor to keep the metal tab bonded to it, and an additional clamp to help keep the captight against the Opti body.

I have used the Jegs 8mm f-body wires before, and while they do work, the straight boots on the pass side do make install more difficult.

I have used MSD coils for years with no issues ever. I have also used the Jegs version without any problems as well.

Somewhere on the internet is a list of things not to do to an LT1 and it appears you found it.

Bosch platinum plugs - Suck. Period.

Aftermarket coil for a '96-up LT1 - no improvement. '94 & '95 maybe, but not '96 or '97.

F-Body wires / Accel distributor - an unneeded hassle / junk - listen to what the previous posters say - they are right.

Electric fan - why fabricate one when there are factory setups that will bolt in, work correctly, and likely do it for less money?

160 thermostat - altering the fan turn-on temps in the PCM is a better way to go.

Do yourself a favor - spend Saturday morning boxing everything back up and sending it back - the parts you have chosen are either failures waiting to happen or are of no improvement.

The time lost to reordering will be more than made up by not pulling it back apart again to fix it when things don't work.

I used the Bosch Platinum Plus plugs (4005) in my '94. That car got 3-4 MPG more than my '95 and ran 14.75 in the 1/4. The plugs are still in the engine which in now in my son's Camaro. I would use them again.

My son's '95 has had a Summit opti in it for around three years with no problems. My preference would have been Delco but at the time cost was a consideration and it was one of the cheapest we could find. Admittedly he does not put a lot of miles on the car.

Wow while appreciate the honesty you guys really pissed in my Cheerios!

OK first thing, I never noticed was that I ordered F Body Wires. They were a tad tougher, but went in ok. I have used Bosch plugs for a long time and have gotten good results so I don't share your opinion on them. While I will admit I am new to an LT1 motor Accel has Always been great for me in 25yrs of wrenching on cars so the coil, opti & cap and rotor seemed like the thing to do. Outside of that I removed the mechanical fan, replaced the water pump & belt tensioner. I was running out of time so for a while in the colder winter I was going to run just the electric fan...that was until I test drove it around the block and was prob 10 degrees away from overheating. I am guessing the existing electric fan doesn't come on. I will test it tommorow and worst case install the new electric, and since I will be short on time I will just tie it in to a switched power source for now to be sure I get good cooling. The reason I didn't go with a second stock fan is because I didnt feel the stock ones would move as much air. With fans I subscribe to the thinking more CFM is better. As for mounting the fans, I have a friend that can cut a metal mount for them if I give him a posterboard cutout. So Temp I will use the plastic mounts that came with it on the top, and zip tie the bottom. Once I have the mounting brackets I will switch it out.

While I did have it out test driving it...Man did it Jump to Life. It definitely needed a tuneup etc.

Fans meen nothing if you don't get every last bit of air out of the engine. Gen2 engines love to trap air and overheat if you don't stay on top of them. Also the factory electric fans don't come on until your almost into the red zone on the temp gauge. Then they roar to life and the temp will plummet back down to normal.

we cant help you if you don't ask first,at least you didn't buy the msd opti for $450
make sure the opti vacuum harness still works, most of us replace it with a new one.
take apart your old opti if the bearing is still good save it.
did you try to bleed the air from the bleeder ?

I didn't realize the factory fans come on so late. Kinda makes me lean towards switched power for the fans. I have always done everything I can to run cool, and would rather burn out a $70 fan every year or two then heat up and engine. I will look at it more tomorrow and let you know. Speaking of which does anyone know what the CFM of a stock electric fan is? Yes I did bleed some air but again will do it again Sunday to be sure. Someone had mentioned earlier about the programming. I was going to get it reprogrammed soon too. Step 2 in a few weeks is a shift kit, and the reprogramming.

I don't know what the cfm of the fans are but if you are going over 30 mph the air flow should
cool it off without the fans. don't get the hypertech programmer,if you have a 94-95 one of us
can load a tune in if you get one from one of the progammers

A simple tune will lower the fan on off temps, and much more.

And don't get intimidated by the guys. Some of the most stern sounding guys are some of the most nicest guys you could expect to meet. But we were just giving you advice based on 10-16 years of experience. And the experience of thousands of people who have tried different parts who we have taken advice from ourselves.

Always remember that as with anything even 1,000 agreeing opinions may not be right 100% of the time. Use the parts you feel comfortable with and if they work for your application then don't worry about what others say. Although there are some things that are true regardless, such as the effects of using chinese parts.
