F*%($g caprice, This 94 is a PITA, it runs like sh!t now it won't even start. smell gas, i played with the coil, checked the injector fuses, that was the problam last time. I'm so close to parting this POS, to bad its a a fully loaded detectives car. and to top it we got 20 freaking inchs of snow. I hooked onto it with the truck and yanked it out of the way. ARRRRGH.

There feel better.

If you get to the point where you give up then put it up for sale before parting it out. Some of us may be looking for a cheap ride even if it does need a little work.

Glen:
When I purchased the 94 LS it had set for several years. Could not get it to start even after I had replaced the opti, coil, wires, plugs, new throttle body and so on. Each time I attempted to start it smelt like it was flooding out. Changed the sensor on the water pump, that sends a message to the ECM as to how cold it is and how much fuel flow. Once I changed that, turnt the key and away she went like a new one. I think I would check that sensor out before parting the girl out.

Any time you can't diagnose a no start issue, look at the three wires that plug into the coil. There could be a break inside the wire insulation at the connector. Very easily overlooked because you just can't see it.

What's this sensor called?

this car is pretty crusty underneith, it is loaded to the hill, Maroon interior, power 60/40 bench, I just spent huge bucks for brake lines and such, I hate to part it, but she's really starting to piss me off

The one they're talking about is the coolant temp sensor on the front cover of the water pump. Be carefull when ordering because you want the 2 wire sensor. the sensor for the guage is called the same thing but it's a single wire and they aren't interchangable.

Of course you could always try doing the 3 wire sensor and removing the sensor in the head which would allow one less sensor to worry about, clean up the engine bay, and make tune-ups easier.

There he goes again!!!! Razz

That sensor can go 2 ways.
1) As everybody just mentioned
2) Fine when its cold, but runs like azz when its hot, sputtering, hard start etc

You start having electrical issues and you'll quickly want to start removing redundant systems. We have sensors that we don't need as well as multiple sensors to tell the same thing. Any of them short out or a wire gets crossed and it'll take years to find and fix the problem.

Converting to a 3-wire sensor removes a redundant sensor, moves a wire that's commonly fualty to a safer location, cleans up space on the side of the engine, and allows a way to know when the sensor is bad since it will also show up as bad on the guage at the same time. Only issue is moving the guage wire and extending it to the front of the engine. By the way the 3-wire sensor runs about the same as the 2-wire one and the connector can be had at any junkyard since it was used on alot of different sensors on a lot of different cars. I got mine off the tps on an old Camaro Very Happy

Well I have no idea what sensor your talking about switching, removing, it's like me reading chinese, HUH? Lol

anywho, I spend to hours in the freezing snow up to my waist trying to start this pile, changed the sensor, and the coil wire, nothing. I'm going to swap out the coil, the wire looks broken on the end, and all the wires I have are different.
Also Ron told me to check the oil, (duh I'm so stupid) and he was rite, all gas. I'm going to Jack it up tomorrow and change the oil.
