No. Not armor all wipes. You can pretty much hose down the whole engine bay with low pressure.

Cheapo way?

Spray cold engine with Windex. All over.

Hose off.

Done.

Yes, I'm serious. Smile

Clean everything individually with terrycloth towels and a degreaser. Use steel wool on the aluminum parts. I used this Black magic engine cleaner/shiner once and it worked awesome. You soak your engine bay with it and then put water in a spray bottle spray and wipe.

I recommend this product.

I just used that stuff I didn't clean anything first. It does nothing to paint. Not sure how it works on aluminum I used it on a 3800 series II.

There's no way I'm the only one who figured out the tricks.

Paint everything black and then don't open your hood often. It works great for me. Then occasionally I spill oil or something on stuff and it gives everything a nice glossy finish to brighten things up a bit.

The other trick is to remove the under hood light and only open the hood at night in public parking lots. Those giant pole lights give plenty of light to work without showing any dirt.

I simply removed my engine and transmisson, pressure washed the engine, transmission and engine bay, then replaced all the gaskets and seals, then painted stuff my choice of colors, then put the engine back in. Very Happy What could be easier? Shocked

I wasn't kidding. That is what I did right before I shipped my wagon to Germany. I know that is a little extreme for just cleaning the engine bay but I also had numerous oil leaks that had to be repaired prior to the car being shipped and it was easier to just pull the engine and transmission. Here was the end result, and after 4 years it still looks very good, dupli-color engine paint works great.

In the past I have had good luck with Gunk engine brite, Simple Green, Tough Stuff and there was some purple stuff the we sold at the parts store I used to work at that worked great too, just don't use high pressure water. I have had issues with that in the past, my mom's 1977 Mercedes 450SEL didn't take kindly to the use of high pressure. I borrowed the car, checked the oil and it was low so I topped it off and left the cap sitting on the intake making a huge mess under the hood. I take it to the car wash, put some quarters in the machine and proceed to clean up my mess, I finished up and I was proud of how clean it was. I get in the car and go to start it and it just turns over, I had to walk back home to tell my Dad the car was dead. We towed it home and even after opening all of the electrical connections and distributor then spraying them with WD-40 the car still didn't start. It took 3 days for the engine to dry out on it's own. I have heard of people using aluminum foil to keep water out of electrical connections and sensitive components but I have never tried it myself so I don't know how well it works.

$15 for S100 at a motorcycle dealer. ALL YOU NEED!!!!

It's a cleaner/degreaser than leaves a nice satin finish on everything. Safe for paint.

I did this once by accident on my first car, a 1987 Caprice Classic handed down to me by my parents. I lit the engine bay on fire!!! It was going for 20-30 ticks before I hosed it down.......not a speck of oil in there after that!!!!
